One of the most significant things happening to a student of the Europaklasse is the annual school trip.
For our class, the 1 EK, that trip took place at the beginning of May. We took a flight to Holland and sailed to 5 different beautiful places. And now we want to share this unforgettable adventure with you.
On Saturday we landed at the airport in Schiphol and took a train to Enkhuizen, where we got on our ship. There the first shock of the week already waited for us: We had tiny little rooms with no space to move. However, we didn’t start sailing that day, we were given free time to explore the city. The real adventure started on Sunday, when we began sailing. We hoisted the sails and set off for Makkum. – A really beautiful little city with beautiful nature.
On Monday the weather was not very good because it was windy and cloudy, but we still went to the beach in West - Terschelling. Even though it was cold, we had fun walking along the shore and looking at the sea. Many of us collected shells, and some people also found dead animals which they then buried. Afterwards, we went on a small hike to a hill where we enjoyed the beautiful view over West – Terschelling and the sea
.
On Tuesday, we continued our journey to Texel. After arriving, we explored the town and had some free time to walk around. Later, we visited a museum where we learned more about the city and its history. Even though we were already a little tired from sailing all day, we still had fun. Wednesday was one of the best days for many of us because we went on a bike tour through nature and past fields until we reached Ecomare, a seal rescue centre. There we saw seals swimming and resting, which was really exciting. After that, we continued to a beach where we could relax and enjoy the fresh air before cycling back.
On Thursday, we had a very special experience. We sailed to a sandbank and got off the boat for a mudflat hike (Wattenmeerwanderung). Walking through the mud was harder than expected because we sometimes sank into it, but it was also very funny seeing people get stuck or trip. Some people almost lost their shoes in the mud. Even though we got very dirty, everyone had a great time and laughed a lot.
On Friday, we arrived in Stavoren. We spent the day walking through the town, shopping and enjoying our last full day together. Later, we had a picnic at the beach, where we talked about our favorite parts of the trip. Afterwards we went back to the boat to enjoy our last sunset at the sea – It was the most beautiful sunset we have ever seen.
On Saturday, we packed our things and sailed back to Enkhuizen. Soon after, we travelled back to the airport and flew home. Even though we were happy to see our families again, most of us were sad that the trip was already over. We made many unforgettable memories together and learned a lot during this amazing week in Holland.
And now we’re really looking forward to our sports week in Croatia.
